White box by Anna Peisl



The box – an expressionistic quotation. A surrealistic space surrounded by white, where the edges of the space seem to disobey the laws of perspective – askew but perfectly askew. A provocation for our habitual way of seeing. A space that allows figures at the back to appear large but nevertheless squashed together. And at the front, they are free. Anna Peisl knows how this space works and allows her models to react to the space. Some of them feel uncertain, intimidated. Others play along with the space. Yet others could not care a damn. In this strangely bent frame, everything plays a part, takes on importance … and captures our attention.
