Bra Trainer by Noam Toran

Bra Trainer (2007)
Mixed media

Bra Removal Trainer is a teaching aid designed to instruct adolescent boys to overcome the intricacies of opening the brassiere. When initiated the machine demonstrates the principles of both clasp disengagement and brassiere removal. Following a short pause the machine then re-secures the bra ready for the next demonstration. The piece is inspired from accounts of repressive post-war institutionalised sex education in the UK in which teachers were not allowed to touch any of the props (prophylactics, physical models of reproductive organs) unless using gloves or a stick. In collaboration with Nick Williamson.

Commissioned by Alexandra Midal for the Luxembourg Musee d’Art Moderne, Photography by Andres Lejona

Decision-makers Seek Internal Balance, Not Balanced Alternatives

"This is a state of dynamic equilibrium, much like controlling body temperature," said Paulus. "How humans select a particular course of action may be in response to raising or lowering that 'set point' back to their individual comfort zone. In people with psychiatric disorders or addictions, the thermostat may be broken."

Why designers can't understand their users

'Why are computers difficult to use? It is so easy to design a user-friendly computer' explains why computers are user-unfriendly and how to design user-friendly computers. First applied cognitive psychology is analysed. This science should know how to design user-friendly computers. A synthetic approach, including traditional ergonomic topics as character size and contrast is elaborated. The approach is tested on the design of ticket vending machines and dynamic train indicators. The results found are applied to a broad range of interfaces including computer interfaces. A comparison with other cognitve psychological approaches is used for a theoretical validation. Finally the approach is tested using the approach itselve. It is suggested not technicians, designers or managers are to blame for user-unfriendly designs but cognitive psychology.

Six in ten women in UK have had an affair with a colleague

"Work is far more pressurised than it used to be and flirting has become a natural way to make the job more enjoyable. It's also much easier to get away with flirting behind your colleagues' backs thanks to email." - Lisa Smosarski, More Magazine editor.

Overall, 70 per cent think "flirting makes the workplace more interesting" and three out of ten working women have gone the whole way and had sex at work.

How Women Choose Men

“It shows our human brains don't simply build prototypes of the ideal face based on those we see around us, rather they build them based on those to whom we have a strongly positive relationship.”

[via Women Prefer Men Who Look Like Dad]

Men with square jaws and well-defined brow ridges are seen as good short-term partners, while those with more feminine traits such as a rounder face and fuller lips are perceived as better long-term mates.
